NFL mock draft 2018: Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield could be biggest QB dominoes

Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame: After spending the last three months with an almost singular focus on aiding second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago should be overjoyed if Nelson is still on the board. A mauler in the run game with the footwork and form to excel in pass protection, Nelson might have both the highest floor and ceiling of any prospect in the class.

Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia:Reuben Foster’s place on the team is under great scrutiny after he was charged with three felonies. Regardless of his future, the 49ers need play-making ability and leadership at linebacker, and rangy Smith offers ample amounts of both.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama: New defensive coordinator Mike Pettine places a premium on keeping quarterbacks on their toes with a wide range of different looks, and Fitzpatrick is the kind of versatile piece he would covet. Though the do-everything defensive back doesn’t fit the traditional role of a lockdown corner on the outside, Green Bay would find plenty of ways to capitalize on his intelligence and closing speed.

This is the highest Ragnow will go, but with Derwin James off the board, the Ravens might look to address their biggest need (center) in Round 1 and look to build their receiver and safety depth later. Kolton Miller is an option here, as well.

This would be a dream landing spot for Rosen. He can develop behind Phillip Rivers for two seasons before being taking over and staying in Los Angeles. The Chargers could move up just a few spots to No. 10 or No. 12 to get him.

The Browns and Jets passing on Allen, on top of the resurfaced, character-damaging tweets and an inaccurate arm, apparently didn’t raise red flags for the Bills, who threw away their entire second round to draft him. The idea that Allen is a good QB for the harsh conditions in Buffalo is overblown. Now the Bills are stuck with overrated stopgap AJ McCarron and a project player. The city-team-player-scheme is off here.
